About this Show

How we live our lives shows up in our singing voice. As we do one thing we do everything. Singing and using our voices in any way can be very scary for people. They say the number one fear is speaking, I say it is singing in public.

There are words that have not been spoken, there are emotions that have not been expressed, and there are actions that have not been taken. All of these unspoken words show up in the body as trapped and stuck energy. This held energy also shows up in the vocal range of the singer and their singing voice.

I listen to people release this held and unspoken energy, and in classes we all hold a container for these emotions to finally be expressed through singing.

Singing involves using breath, energy, enthusiasm, the physical body and the emotions. It helps us to get back in touch with the beauty of life, the mystery and the pure freedom of experiencing creativity through singing.

I work with the different energy centers of the body in order to create harmony within the whole system using singing, movement and self-awareness to re-create connection to self.

Through:
Holding a compassionate space for people to be seen and heard.
Using vibration to soften the body’s rigid armor to promote flow and increase energy
Having a consciousness around this flow and how to be responsible for our own field of energy
Creating harmony within the whole body using the chakra system and sound
Expanding your vocal range therefore increasing your emotional range
The exploration of the shadow aspects of the singer through inclusivity and acceptance

About the Guest Speaker

A life in music is not always an easy life. To express oneself in song is to expose the inner core of emotion, desires, tumultuous and romantic love and, yes, pain. Being in tune with these emotions and their Byzantine complexities can be too much, as we have seen some of the greatest musical minds throughout history succumb to the abuses of substances used to numb the rawness of these nerves.

In rare cases though, the pain of expressing one.s deepest emotions through song and performance can lead the artist to a reflective place were she connects with the true healing powers of spirit and time, coming out the other side with a singularity of purpose, presence and voice.

Few artists have channeled the forces of healing and song as completely as Ms. Anna Beaumont. Confronting her own emotional dark times not with abuses and intoxication but through reflection and spiritual energy, she has evolved into more than just an accomplished singer, writer and performer who can count among her many credits commissions for songs ranging from Ribbon of Light, (theme song for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation); Go For the World's, the official theme song for the World Championships in Athletics in Edmonton, Alberta (co-written with Pierre Sabourin); her song Celebrate the Children is the theme song for the Children's Health Foundation. Anna has to her credit three very well received recordings of Jazz and contemporary pop songs, Rise Above (1999), Promise My Heart (2000) and with the generous support of Rawlco Radio's granting initiatives Anna released Under the Covers (2005), a collection of stripped down Folk, Jazz, and Pop covers alongside her own beautiful original tunes.

As a vocal teacher, Ms. Beaumont brings more than just the notes techniques to her students, she helps them find their own channel, whether through private sessions or through her Express Yourself workshops, now in it's 8th successful year. Anna calls upon her training as an Integrated Body Psychotherapist to help others heal, sing and celebrate the twin towers of music and spirit.

Ms. Beaumont is preparing to integrate her passions into a record that combine her compositional skills and melodic gifts with the poetry of Rumi and Hafiz, 13 & 14th Century Sufi poets. The words of these sage men have been lifting from the page in front of Anna.s very eyes, begging to be set to song. With the production assistance of Tomas Brabec, who counts among his credits remix work for Justin Timberlake, this promises to be a collection of pop music with tinges of middle-eastern, celtic and jazz influences.

The fusion of these worlds into one great life in music seems only fitting for one who so boldly confronted the complexities of her own dark times, emerging with herself, her strengths and her song in tact. Thankfully Anna Beaumont also possesses the courage, boldness and generosity to share her found treasures with the world around her.
